The Beautiful Plants of Beautiful White Desert

Deserts are very beautiful and attractive, especially if the color of the sand is whitish. Few days before, I attended the Asian Camel Racing Federation founding meeting in Alwathba Abu Dhabi and lived in Jumeirah desert resort. https://camel4all.blog/2019/07/03/asian-camel-racing-federation-establishes-in-abu-dhabi-uae/

The hotel is a very attractive place to live and the surrounding of the hotel is very touchy with the sand and the hydrophytes plants. I shot some very attractive pictures of the vicinity where are presented below.

The author is an ethnobotanist and ethnoecologist, so straighly went to the nearby sands and started to find the local flora and fauna. There was no much biodiversity but I found 2 types of plants and lizard, though there were some pigeons and doves around. I mostly shoot the pictures of the zerophyte plant (zygophyllum) and compiled this album of the beautiful plant. Before, I have written and documented about this plant as a source of food for camels. Please go to the link below. https://camel4all.blog/2017/01/08/the-strong-and-resilient-plant-of-desert-zygophyllum-zygophyllum-qatarense/

Asian Camel Racing Federation Establishes in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Camel is one of the important livestock and a great player in the food security, livelihood insurance, and the sports’ world. The camel is the inseparable part of the heritage and cultures of the desert ecosystemS, especially the Arabian peninsula.

The value of camel as a sports’ animal, especially racing is well recognized and understood. The camel racing is held in different parts of the world with their local rules and norms. On the other hand, there are very specialized and established rules and regulations for camel racing in the Arabian Peninsula.

United Arab Emirates has always played a leading role in the formalization of the modern camel racing. There are many regular camel racing events in different periods of the year, which attracts many more tourist to see this heart touching game of camel racing. I must appreciate that the UAE is also the world’s top leading camel milk (CaM) producing country.

Keeping the pace of the great role in the camel’s world, UAE made it possible to establish the first founding meeting of the Asian Camel Racing Associations. The foundation meeting was held in Alwathba, Abu Dhabi, 27-29 June 2019.

Foundation General Assembly Meeting of the Asian Camel Association

The first day

The statutes of the Asian Camel Racing Federation (ACRF)’s proposed draft was discussed and finalized to be presented in the general assembly for approval.

The second day

The general assembly of the ACRF was held and the organizing body was announced. The body will be formally announced by the authority of the ACRF.

I hope ACRF will bring successes in the camel world of the region. The regional camel associations will be supported to be strengthen at local level and organize camel racing under the statutes and regulations of the ACRF.

The World Celebrated the Camel’s Day

The camel is making it space as a sustainable food security animal under changing climate change scenario. One of the most important driving force behind this phenomenon is the precious camel milk (CaM). Lately, many scientific findings have revealed that CaM is a natural remedy for many complex ailments of the human being, ranging from cancer to diabetes and anti-inflammatory to anti-oxidants etc. †

Contrary to the realistic approach, there are many unaware people about the promising roles of camels, most of them are at the policy framework levels and food consumers. To highlight the importance of the camel for its true potential, the author initiated the idea of the World Camel Day https://medium.com/@raziqarkbiodiversity/my-camel-story-and-world-camel-day-22-june-ea49cc3ebca2

Since last 9 years, we are celebrating world camel day. Luckily, each year, the circle of the celebration widens and many more people and groups are joining. In 2012, we celebrated WCD at larger level in the University of Agriculture Faisalabd. http://camel4all.com/world-camel-day-activity-report-from-university-of-agriculture-faisalabad-uaf/ 012/events/140621.html

International Camel Group with Whatsapp Connection

In the last trimester of the 2018, the author organized an International Forum for Camel Milk and Advocacy on Whatsapp, which is now composed of 120 members from the all parts of the world. Those who are interested to join, can email to the author with their whatsapp number.

The group has a diverse background of the people, from veterinarian, animal scientists, camel lover, interpreters, pastoralists, NGOs, Researcher/scientists, film makers, students to the business people. This year, the WCD has a wider and broader appreciation from different quarters of the world, ranging from Australia, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Central Asia, Arabia, Europe and up to Americas, the main driver was the whatsapp group.

Only camel makes it possible to live in harsh, dry and hottest environment

IFCAM

We have a web link of the CaM experts, a hub for knowledge management and to consult for health aspects with the respect of the camel milk. IFCAM is a great place to get support for the health complications and response with the camel milk.https://camelmedforum.com/advisory-board/. Under the patronage of IFCAM, the Jodie Ashore organized a film, covering different important parts of the camel’s world. https://youtu.be/ay9wM0WeBXo

This year, the theme of the WCD was ‘THE CAMEL MILK’ CaM. We published an article well before time, to ask the people around the world to come forward and celebrate world camel day at their local levels. http://camel4all.com/world-camel-day-22nd-june-2019-is-approaching/

Hashtag #WorldCamelDay on the twitter was playing its role

We were trying to hash tag WCD activities from around the world with the hashtag stated above. There was a great support and appreciation. I wish and appeal the twitter to please support our cause of sustainable food production in challenging environment with the power of promising camel.

I’m very happy with all this success and congratulate you all for the successful WCD, 22 June, 2019.

Camel, Desert and the Umbrella Tree

The camels, umbrella tree (Acacia tortillas) go hand in hand in the desert. Umbrella tree is one of the most strong and resilient fauna of the extremely dry lands and desert, therefore is acting like a hope for camels during the hot weathers in the sandy deserts.

The camels are such a beautiful creatures, especially when you see them in the desert near an umbrella tree. Umbrella tree is one of the ice cream plant for the camels and goats.

I shot this picture in the amazing beautiful land, the Alain

I have already written certain articles with the title of ice cream plants species of camels. https://camel4all.blog/2017/12/17/the-ice-cream-species-of-plants-for-the-camel-and-goat/

Acacia tortillas is very important plants of the United Arab Emirates. It is found almost everywhere in the country. I have compiled one photostory of the this precious tree.http://camel4all.com/world-camel-day-22nd-june-2019-is-approaching/

One can see many beautiful pictures in the above link. All flora and fauna on the earth are important. They need to be documented, sustainably use and conserve for the next generations.

The Camels Love the Water

Camels can survive and perform without water for 2 weeks but if they find water they love it. When I was shooting the pictures, the temperature was 45.5 Celsius that time but they were absorbing the sharp sunshine while enjoying the water.

They especially love water when it is gushing from a broken water supply pipes or coming from a spring. Yesterday afternoon, I saw these 2 camels enjoying water in the desert.

Based on my desert exploration work and knowledge, all the desert creatures (flora and fauna) are highly resilient to the water scarcity but when they found it, they know how to enjoy, consume and conserve for the needy days.

You can see the Acacia tortilis tree in the driest terrain of the desert, they are happy and flourishing without water for hundreds of days but whenever they get rains, they enjoy and conserve water for the dry period.

Conclusion

The desert ecosystem is rich with unique and super genetic resources both of flora and fauna diversity. They are well design for the harsh and hardy climatic conditions and support the human being in these ecosystem. We just need to admire, respect, sustainably use and conserve for the next generation.

The world camel day is approaching on 22nd June, the main theme is the awareness about the role of camel as food security animal in the challenging climatic conditions. http://camel4all.com/world-camel-day-22nd-june-2019-is-approaching/

Camel’s Flower (زهر) Tribulus is the Precious Flora of the Arabian Desert~ A Camel Ice-cream Species. Series 5

Tribulus is resilient, beautiful and important flora of the desert.

  • It is resilient to the hardiness of the climate and weather of the desert
  • Having medicinal value, directly and indirectly (use as a herb also indirectly through camel urine and milk)
  • it is perineal plant but sprouts in spring (March and April after rains)
Tribulus Plant
Very much liked by the camel, especially fresh sprouted with blossom in the spring after rains, therefore known as camel ice-cream species

Not only valued as camel food and ethnomedicine but tribulus is home to precious fauna of the Desert

  • Many types of fauna live inside and around the Tribulus plant
  • They either depend upon the nectar, or florescence or eat the leaves
  • Some makes burrows and home inside the plant to make it habitat
  • They are making a rich niche and ecosystem
  • They fabricate a very useful and efficient biological control

They have beautiful flowers and seeds

.The yellow flowers make it very attractive in the desert. It attracts the insects and birds from a far distance. The aroma of the nectar is also very appealing for the bees and wasps. The seeds are coated in a compound structure enriched with hair to maintain the moisture of the structure.

The pest of the plant

In the month of the February, they are very much affected by the small black insects like lice. The insects rely on the florescence for food and shelter. They drink the moisture and juice of the pedestal of the flowers.

Then the other factors, like other good insects, wind storm, birds and rain help the tribunals to get rid of the lice.
